Video Project

For my video project for multimedia journalism, I will be interviewing and talking with people about the new media - how media has evolved and how the media is changing for today. I think that something I have lacked in my education at Westfield State is the new media - with the exception of Nigel's classes on Flash and Dreamweaver, the new media really has been left out of the direct, day-to-day education. I think that someone with experience in the new media would be a great asset to the students in the Communications department at Westfield State.

I will talk about the new media because I realize how important it is to many careers.

Class Slideshow

I am working on my slideshow for the Multimedia Journalism class. I have a variety of different ideas that I am going to utilize, using Sound Slides, to make a great presentation. I am thinking that the best thing for me to do is take a variety of pictures off of my Facebook - even though I am not big on using Facebook except for self-promotion as far as the radio business goes, I definitely do have a variety of different pictures up there. Of them, you can get a pretty good description of what my life is like on a daily basis, and a lot of the things that I enjoy doing as well. I am thinking of maybe putting together a slide show of pictures of baseball and football games that I have been to in the past year, additionally.

I think that Soundslides is a very effective program. Of course, I have experience using Final Cut Pro and it incorporates some of the main elements, such as the timeline. Since I also use the popular audio editing software Adobe Audition on a daily basis, I am familiar with many of the audio editing aspects.

I look forward to working with Soundslides to accomplish this project and make it very presentable.

USA Hockey

Let's face it - hockey has pretty much lost the interest of many people in the United States since the lockout in the National Hockey League. But last night's thriller with the US versus Canada was an incredible game that was both exciting and compelling. My family never watches hockey - we are huge Patriots and Red Sox fans, and love the Celtics as well. But we don't really watch hockey too much. USA Hockey changed that last night.

Bringing a media aspect into this - what a horrible decision by NBC to air the game in standard definition on MSNBC instead of in HD on the mother ship. Let's just say I think MSNBC got it's highest ever ratings last night -- the news and commentary (see: Keith Olbermann) is a joke on the channel, and everyone I know was watching the hockey game.

Ever since the Hartford Whalers left, I've been irrelevent to hockey. I'll be watching again.

And by the way, curling is my favorite olympic sport.
